Coyote Spotted In North Castle

NORTH CASTLE, N.Y. -- A coyote was spotted on Freedom Road this week, North Castle police said.

A homeowner there called the police after seeing the small, wolf-like animal in her driveway early Wednesday, Feb. 3, police said.

The unwelcome visitor had scrammed by the time the police arrived, but officers patrolling the area said they would keep an eye out for it.

In other police blotter items:

  • Friday, Jan. 29: Police received a complaint from the part-owner of Broadway Pizza who asked them to tell his sister that she is no longer welcome at the business. Police said the incident appeared to have stemmed from a civil matter and that no further action was taken or warranted.
  • A Banksville Avenue resident called to ask for help, claiming that her baby-sitter was refusing to leave her house because she felt she was owed $60. The woman wanted police to escort the baby-sitter off her property and to get the house keys back from her. The matter was resolved when the baby-sitter left, police said.
  • Saturday, Jan. 30: A resident of Evergreen Row complained that a Fed Ex delivery vehicle was driving through his property in a reckless manner. The delivery truck driver reportedly used the complainant's driveway to travel from Route 22 to Evergreen Row. The homeowner told police that he has filed complaints with Fed Ex in the past.
  • Monday, Feb. 1: A Washington Avenue resident called police to report that two men had come to his house claiming to work for a company called “Jasco” and purporting to be there to install sprinklers. They were described as a middle-aged white male with gray hair, and a black male in his 30s or 40s, operating a dark blue van. The man called his landlord who told him he was unaware of any such arrangement. The men left pipes in the man’s garage and told him they would be back after making arrangements with the building manager.
  • A Whippoorwill Road man called police to report that his wife had run over a street sign in the road near their home. He told police that two tires on his wife’s car were damaged and that he wanted an officer to go to their home to take a report from his wife.
