YONKERS, N.Y. -- A 38-year-old Yonkers man was charged with rape Thursday following an incident at the Bedford Hills Correctional Facility.
The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal investigation from the Somers barracks charged Ruben Garcia with two counts of rape in the third degree, a Class E felony.
The arrest concluded a joint investigation conducted by the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision's Office of Special Investigations, and the New York State Police.
DOCCS' Office of Special Investigations contacted the State Police in February of 2015 to report an alleged sexual encounter between a female inmate and Garcia, who was employed as a correction officer at the Bedford Hills Correctional Facility.
An investigation revealed that Garcia had engaged in sexual contact with a female inmate at the facility.
Garcia was arraigned before the Town of Bedford Court and was released on his own recognizance. He is scheduled to re-appear in Bedford Court on Wednesday, Sept. 2 at 7 p.m.
