Bear Keeps North Castle Employees Inside Building

NORTH CASTLE, N.Y. -- A business owner and two of his employees were briefly trapped inside a building on Sunday by a bear, according to a report in the North Castle police blotter.

Police got a call about 10:30 a.m. from a person on Bedford-Banksville Road who said the animal was roaming around his property.

He and two employees were safe inside, but he was afraid, he told police, to open up the business as long as the bear was around.

The wayward woodland critter was MIA by the time police officers arrived on the scene.

The name of the business was not released.

Friday, May 27: A 60-year-old woman had to be taken to the hospital about 7:45 a.m. after she accidentally got her hand caught in a door at a business on New King Street. Employees at the business told police that the injured woman was “semiconscious” and in need of medical assistance. She was taken to Westchester County Medical Center in Valhalla for treatment.

Police also investigated a report of a dog that had been left in a black Jeep Wrangler on Business Park Drive. Temperatures were in the high 80s Friday and over the weekend in the area. When police arrived at the scene, the complainant told them that the vehicle’s top had been removed and the windows were down. However, both the vehicle and pooch were gone by the time police arrived, and the complainant was unable to provide them with any more information.

A woman on Spruce Hill Road called police to complain that teenagers had been trespassing on her property. She told police that her lake had been drained for state-mandated repairs, and the now-dry lakebed was proving a magnet for local youths. She said she had just been given a hard time by four teenage boys after she asked them to leave. The group may have accessed her property from Windmill Road, she told officers. Patrols in the area will now be on the lookout for future trespassing incidents.

Police were also called to Route 22 about 9:30 p.m. by a resident upset about motorcyclists speeding up and down the highway every night. He told police that three bikers had just zoomed past his house. An officer was dispatched to the scene, but the bikers were long gone.
