Father Steven Dym was remembered fondly by his 20-year-old son along with his 50-year-old mother Loretta and 18-year-old sister Caroline, according to multiple reports.
“He was my hero, no matter what the circumstances,” William said of his father. “No matter what the circumstances, my love for him is everlasting.”
When speaking of his mother, William said “(she) was the most caring and hardworking person I ever knew,” he said. “No one worked harder than she did. She helped my father provide for our family.”
The murder-suicide happened while William was away at college in California. Steven Dym, a Manhattan real estate executive, was facing financial trouble and stood accused of embezzling money from several residential properties he managed before the shooting, according to media reports.
Shortly after 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 25, state police troopers teamed with the Pound Ridge Police Department to investigate a possible suicide at the Dym’s Fox Hill Road home. Upon arrival, officers reported that they had found all three bodies dead inside the residence.
It was determined that Dym killed his family with single shots to the midsection with a 12-gauge shotgun before shooting himself in the head. The Westchester County Medical Examiner’s office officially ruled his death as a suicide on Monday.
Dym had several active civil lawsuits against him, claiming that he had stolen hundreds of thousands of dollars from properties he managed, according to People. He had recently come into financial woes, having put the family’s 4,600-square-foot home, valued at more than $1.5 million, on the market.
