Ruth Pell, 91, Longtime Armonk Resident

ARMONK, N.Y. – Ruth K. Pell, 91, a longtime Armonk resident, died Feb. 7. She was 91.

Pell was born July 18, 1921, in Greenwich, Conn., to Edward and Loretta Kane. She married Frederick Pell on June 14, 1947, in a double ceremony with her sister, Irene, and her husband, Joseph Trefny, at Sacred Heart Church in Port Chester.

She received a master’s degree from Columbia University Teachers College in 1967. She was the first female dean at Pace University. She also served as dean of the Lienhard School of Nursing from 1971 to 1981 before retiring in 1984.

Pell was a parishioner of St. Patrick’s Church in Armonk, where she was a choir member and taught religious education for many years. She was an active member of the Green Acres Garden Club and served as coordinator of Meals on Wheels for the area.

She enjoyed gardening, cooking and throwing parties for her family, friends, co-workers and club members.

Pell was predeceased by her husband.

She is survived by three sons, Robert (Jeanny), of Boynton Beach, Fla., James (Kathleen), of Plattsburgh, N.Y., and Frederick (Susan), of Monroe, Conn.; a daughter, Joan Moore, of Patterson, N.Y.; two brothers, Edward (Brenda) Kane, of Lancaster, Pa., and Richard (Lee) Kane, of Strasburg, Pa.; six grandchildren and five nieces.

She was predeceased by a  brother, Robert Pell; her sister; and her brother-in law, Joseph.

Funeral services were held Monday at St. Patrick’s Church in Armonk. Oelker-Fox and Sinatra Funeral Home in Mount Kisco handled arrangements.
