Richard H. Blackmar, 88, Armonk Resident

ARMONK, N.Y. – Richard H. Blackmar, of Armonk, died Sunday, April 10 at his home of 54 years as a result of complications from a stroke suffered in 2013. He was 88.

He was born July 13, 1927, in Dobbs Ferry, to Arthur and Mathilda Blackmar and grew up in Hastings-on-Hudson. Upon graduating from Hastings High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served as a photographer until the end of World War II. He attended Columbia University, the New York School of Modern Photography and the New York School of Photoengraving. He went on to have a 50-year career in the photo engraving business. In addition to being a husband, father and grandfather, he loved photography, gardening, skiing and spending time in his summer home in Montauk, where he enjoyed the beach, fishing and boating. He was a board member of Arc of Westchester and the North Greenwich Congregational Church.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Betty; his children, Barry, Jean Adams, David, Carolyn and John (Trisha); and his grandchildren, George and Kate Adams, Garrett Blackmar-White and Jack and Kiley Blackmar.

A memorial service will be conducted at noon Saturday at the North Greenwich Congregational Church, 606 Riversville Road, Greenwich.
