John Rocco, 92, Former Armonk Resident, WWII Veteran

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - John Rocco of Chapel Hill, formerly of Armonk, died Feb. 28. He was 92.

Rocco was born June 6, 1921, in New York City, N.Y., to Pietro and Anita Rocco. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a navigator on a PBY Catalina flight crew. After service in the U.S. Navy, he worked for Haggerty Millwork in Mount Kisco for 50 years, first as a carpenter, then estimator and lastly as vice president. He received a degree in estimating from New York University. For many years, he was a judge for the New York State Association of Vocational Industrial Clubs of America. He was a life member in the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America.

He lived in Armonk for 50 years before moving to Carolina Meadows in Chapel Hill, N.C. in 2001. He was a parishioner of St. Patrick in Armonk and did volunteer carpentry work for Carolina Meadows.

Rocco is survived by his wife, Rosemond; daughters, Valerie, Marilyn and Kathy; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
