Howard Pier, 90, Former Armonk Resident

ARMONK, N.Y. -- Howard J. Pier, 90, a former Armonk resident, passed away on Nov. 27 from Alzheimer's related dementia in Denver.

Pier was born in Pennsylvania on Feb. 6, 1927. February 6, 1927. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy, and served in World War II. After the war, he received his bachelor of science degree from the University of Detroit in electrical engineering.

Pier married to Therese M. (née Martin) Pier on Sept. 19, 1953, and they were married until her death in 2006.

Pier worked for IBM Corporation for 35 years holding several positions in Cleveland, White Plains, and Armonk. He was described as a loving, and dedicated husband to his wife and devoted father to his children. He found great joy in numerous sporting activities, holiday gatherings, and valued time spent with his wife, children, neighbors, and friends.

Pier is survived by his children: William and Angela (née Bruskotter) Pier of Denver,  Mary (née Pier) Witthoefft of Cumming, Georgia, John and Annie (née Gabriel) Pier of Columbus, and Robert Pier of Scottsdale, Arizona and by his sister, Florine Pier of Phoenix his grandchildren Kelly, Jessica, Lindsay, and Michael, and his great-grandchild, Jake.

Aside from his wife; Pier was predeceased his mother, Annabelle (née Brady) Pier, and his father, Howard Pier Sr.

The funeral service will be held noon Thursday at St. Brendan’s Catholic Church, 4633 Shiloh Hwy, Cumming, Georgia 30040. Burial will follow the funeral at Sawnee View Memorial Gardens, Cumming, Georgia.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (ALZ.org) or charity of your choice.
