Former North Castle Councilwoman Rebecca Kittredge dies

ARMONK, N.Y.--  Rebecca "Becky" Kittredge, a former eight-term councilwoman and deputy supervisor, died Sunday at the age of 69, the town of North Castle has announced.

Kittredge, a lifelong resident of North Castle, was first elected in 1979 and appointed deputy supervisor in 2002, according to a news release from the town. While on the Town Board, Kittredge was liaison to to the Police and Highway departments, and chair of the Beautification Committee, according to the release.

Kittredge, who retired from the Town Board in 2011 also worked for the White Plains School District for 37 years.

The town said Kittredge was proud of finding funding for the John and Goldie Hergenhan Recreation Center on Maple Avenue in Armonk.

"Ever mindful of honoring the service of others, preserving history and bringing the community together in celebration, Becky orchestrated many town events," the town said.

Kittredge was honored for her community service by the Armonk Lions and Armonk Rotary, the town said. 

Councilwoman Diane DiDonato-Roth served on the Town Board with Kittredge and said she worked very hard for the town.

"She was proud of all that she accomplished,." DiDonato-Roth said. "I am so happy she was part of my days. We got a lot of things done together. She was very kind and helpful."

DiDonato-Roth said she valued working with Kittredge on the beautification and recycling committees. 

"It meant so much to the town," DiDonato-Roth said.

DiDonato-Roth lived around the block from her, and said her and her children would go to Kittredge's house and play with sheepdog, Jenny. 

DiDonato-Roth said, "She was always welcoming to me and my children. She was such a lovely woman. I thought highly of her. It's just so sad, she's going to be missed. North Castle and Becky go hand in hand."

Kittredge is survived by her children, Peter Marino Rotondo of Alexandra, Va., and Frances Michelle Rotondo of Virginia Beach, Va.; three grandchildren; and many friends.

She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Marino Rotondo Jr.; sister, Judy Kittredge; and uncle, Harold C. Crittenden.

Visitation will be on Wednesday and Thursday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Hawthorne Funeral Home, 21 West Stevens Ave., Hawthorne.

The funeral service will be on the steps of Town Hall on Friday at 10 a.m., with a private interment at All Souls Cemetery in Pleasantville.
