NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- Dr. Beny J. Primm of New Rochelle, who is credited with starting some of the first methadone clinics for treatment of heroin addiction during the 1960s in New York City died at age 87 on Oct. 16, according to The New York Times.

Primm is also nationally renowned for his advocacy efforts to change public health policy with regards to users of intravenous drugs during the 1980s AIDS epidemic, according to The New York Times.
