Thompson, 43, was one of five officers killed in the line of duty during last week's shootings in Dallas.

Wesley Praino, one of the volunteers towing the White Plains police car to Texas, has been documenting the 1,600-mile trek on social media to allow supporters to follow events as they occur, according to FiOS 1.

Praino and other another volunteer plan to make the journey in under 25 hours, according to FiOS 1, which reported that the men stepped forward to make the trip as a means to honor the officers killed and wounded in last week's shooting.
