Westchester's Rooney Mara Gets Oscar Nod For 'Carol'

BEDFORD, N.Y. -- Bedford's Rooney Mara received her second Academy Award nomination for her role in "Carol," as Best Supporting Actress. She was previously nominated in 2011 for her part in "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo," according to reports.

Mara graduated from Fox Lane High School, as did her sister, fellow actress Kate Mara. Her family owns the New York Giants.

In the movie, Mara plays a 1950s department store clerk Therese Belivet, who is entranced by Carol Aird (Cate Blanchett), a self-assured suburban housewife, who find themselves in an intense relationship that becomes under scrutiny, said ABC News.

Fellow nominees in the category include: Jennifer Jason Leigh for "The Hateful Eight," Alicia Vikander for "The Danish Girl," Rachel McAdams for "Spotlight" and Kate Winslet for "Steve Jobs," said ABC News.
