Westchester County Weighs Options On Naming Of Public Buildings

Varying opinions over the renaming of government-owned properties like the Westchester County Airport and the County Center have caused much debate over who is worthy of the honor or if corporate naming rights should take priority, according to lohud.com.

Multiple properties are part of the debate, but the airport, the County Center and Muscoot Farm in Somers are among the locations drawing the most attention, according to lohud.com.

Some lawmakers have proposed naming the airport or Muscoot Farm after former County Executive Alfred DelBello, who died in 2015. Others have proposed naming the County Center after former County Executive Andrew O'Rourke, who died in 2013. Current County Executive Robert Astorino has said he'd welcome a corporate sponsorship for the center in White Plains, according to lohud.com.

Jim Maisano, vice chairman of the ounty Board of Legislators, has said he'd like to organize a commission of historians to approve naming rights, according to lohud.com.
