Sister Barbara Heil, 80, a faculty member at nearby John F. Kennedy Catholic High School in Somers was killed in the crash.

Two others were injured in the crash. Sister Marie Murphy, also a faculty member at Kennedy Catholic, is hospitalized with serious injuries.

Sister Heil was a part of the Kennedy community since the school opened in 1967, Kennedy Catholic said in a statement posted on its website. Prior to that, she was a teacher at Kennedy Catholic's predecessor, St. Mary's, in Katonah.

"One merely has to take a moment to understand the unimaginable amount of lives Sister Barbara has impacted over the years," read a statement posted on Kennedy Catholic's website. "During her tenure working in the admissions office, how many Gaels was hers the first smiling face when coming to Kennedy Catholic?

"Simply put, Sister Barbara was incredible in every way. This is truly a great loss to Kennedy Catholic and to our community as a whole."

Funeral arrangements for Sister Heil have not been finalized.
