In October 2012, former New York Red Bulls Youth Training Coach and Armonk United Soccer Coach Michael Jones was murdered in New York City.

His service was held at First Baptist Church in White Plains, where friends and family mourned the 25-year-old Harrison resident’s death.

Jones, originally from Liverpool, England, was honored by hundreds of friends and loved ones, many donning Red Bulls jerseys with Jones’ nickname “Jonesy” on the back, along with Liverpool Football Club scarves.

Friends and family said they would never forget his positive energy. “He was always smiling, laughing and joking,” John Birchall, a close friend of Jones, recalled at Jones’ memorial. “Just such a fun guy to be around all the time.”

New York City Police determined Orlando Orea as a suspect in Jones’ murder. However, Orea fled the country to Mexico before he could be apprehended by authorities.

Two months later, the manhunt for Orea continues.
