Study: 24.9 Percent Of New Yorkers Considered Obese

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. — A recently released Gallup poll found that 24.9 percent of New York residents were considered obese in 2012.

The national obesity rate was 26.2 percent, almost the same as 2011's rate of 26.1 percent, the statistics said.  All but four states nationwide remained at the same percentage as well.  New York did not make the top 10 most or least obese states, according to the study.

The data was collected as part of the Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index, using peoples responses to height and weight to figure out body mass index, the article said. The statistics have been tracked since 2008 by Gallup and Healthways, the article said.

Here are the top 11 least obese states, and percentage of residents obese.

1. Colorado 18.7 2. Massachusetts 21.5 3. Montana 20 4. Connecticut 22.7 5. California 23.1 6. Utah 23.9 7. Arizona 24.1 8. Rhode Island 24.3 9. Idaho, New Jersey, Washington, all 24.4
