Strong Winds Bring Down Trees, Causing Power Outages, Road Closures

Strong, gusty winds have blown down trees and power lines, resulting in scattered power outages and road closures throughout the area Thursday morning.

A High Wind Warning issued by the National Weather Service is in effect until 11 a.m. with gusts up to 60 miles per hour possible.

A downed tree near the Hawthorne Metro-North station caused morning delays of up to 20 minutes. Service returned on or close to schedule by 8:40 a.m.

There was stop-and-go traffic on the southbound side of the Saw Mill River Parkway as a result of a downed tree closing the right lane at Route 117 in Mount Kisco. Stop-and-go delays stretched back to I-684 at 8:30 a.m.

A stretch of Route 9A was closed is Ossining as a result of a large fallen tree, reported at 8:30 a.m. The roadway reopened by 9:30 a.m.

Springhurst Road in Bedford and Route 116 at Little Mountain Road in North Salem were both closed as a result of downed trees.

In Dutchess, a fallen tree shut down Beekman Road at Old Martin Road in Hopewell Junction.

Thursday's high temperature will be in the low 40s under mostly sunny skies.

Snow showers are possible during the day Friday, with the high in the upper 30s.
