State Assembly Votes To Lift Ban On Mixed Martial Arts

A bill allowing full-contact combat sports in New York has made it through the state Legislature, according to a report by Time Warner Cable News.

The state Assembly passed the legislation lifting the ban on the violent sport Tuesday and Gov. Andrew Cuomo is expected to sign it into law, making mixed martial arts legal, Time Warner Cable News reported.

It was passed by the state Senate earlier this year, the Time Warner Cable News story said.

According to Time Warner Cable News, promoters are already planning the first MMA bout for a New York City venue.
