Snowstorm Closes Town Hall, Schools In North Castle

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- Governments and school districts across Northern Westchester will be closed on Tuesday and a full travel ban has been implemented for Westchester and 12 other counties by Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

Weather forecasts project snowfall could reach up to two feet. 

Bedford's town offices will be closed on Tuesday. A Bedford Planning Board meeting originally set for Tuesday was postponed to Thursday. Lewisboro announced its town offices will be closed on Tuesday.

Mount Kisco announced a snow emergency is in effect, which can be read here. Additionally, a Mount Kisco Planning Board meeting set for Tuesday was cancelled.

The Bedford Central and Katonah-Lewisboro school districts both announced their schools will be closed on Tuesday.

North Castle's town hall, which is in Armonk, will be closed on Tuesday, along with the community center in North White Plains. The Byram Hills school district will be closed on Tuesday. A Byram Hills School Board meeting for Tuesday also was cancelled.

New Castle announced town hall will be closed on Tuesday and a Town Board meeting set for Tuesday was postponed to Wednesday. A snow emergency is in effect in New Castle, which can be read here. 

Chappaqua's school district announced that schools will be closed on Tuesday.

Somers' town offices are scheduled to be closed on Tuesday, along with Somers schools. North Salem town Hall and schools are also set to be closed on Tuesday.

As towns and schools are limiting their hours, the eve of the blizzard is also a time to prepare.

Karen Benvin Ransom, a Katonah Realtor and Daily Voice Community Advisor, discussed what she has done to prepare for the storm. She made sure she had salt and food plus a car full of gas. Ransom said she has a generator but if the cable TV goes out she has a collection of DVDs to play, which she checked out from the library.
