A sculpture titled "Why" is on display at the front of the North Castle Public Library, thanks to an anonymous donation. The sculpture was done by Purchase College graduate Sean Landau.

Town Board Member Diane DiDonato Roth said pieces of art help enhance the Town of North Castle.

"It helps our community and makes us special," DiDonato Roth said.

A family wanted to pay tribute to their mom, a former North Castle resident, and donated $10,000 to add art in Armonk.

Landau's art was discovered after winning first place at the Armonk Outdoor Art Show last year and it was decided his sculpture would the best fit.

"It was the most perfect piece of sculpture," DiDonato Roth said. "We wanted to give a young artist that opportunity and promote him."

On the Town Board, DiDonato Roth often deals with keeping taxes low and paving roads, but she said it is important to think of ways to add to the community experience.

"Let's add value to people's lives and think outside the box," DiDonato Roth said. "I want to see art in every hamlet in North Castle. It's exciting."

Landau said people are always asking why, as it's both an easy and hard question to answer.

"Why is very questionable," Landau said. "Why does all this stuff happen?"

The metal sculpture took a semester to complete. Landau is currently working on several projects, all of different words. He said he has been interested in art his whole life, since he was messing around with Play-Doh.

"I fell in love with metal five to six years ago," Landau said. "It's taken off and never stopped. Sculpting is the forefront of my work."

Landau said seeing his work displayed at the library is fantastic.

"It's a phenomenal fit," Landau said. "I look forward to putting more sculptures in the neighborhood."
