NORTH CASTLE, N.Y. -- Voters in North Castle decided they wanted their receiver of taxes appointed instead of elected.
The proposition to make the position appointed was passed 408-251 following a special election on Tuesday. The move was hailed by town officials who said it could save the town about $100,000 a year, according to The Examiner .
Supervisor Michael Schiliro said he would appoint current Receiver of Taxes Patti Colombo to the seat, according to The Examiner . Colombo had told the town she intends to retire soon and will help lead the office's transition, according to The Examiner.
