The proposition to make the position appointed was passed 408-251 following a special election on Tuesday. The move was hailed by town officials who said it could save the town about $100,000 a year, according to The Examiner.

Supervisor Michael Schiliro said he would appoint current Receiver of Taxes Patti Colombo to the seat, according to The Examiner. Colombo had told the town she intends to retire soon and will help lead the office's transition, according to The Examiner.
