GREENBURGH, N.Y. -- The Town of Greenburgh's Department of Public Works crews, like many in the region, have been working around the clock since Tuesday's major snowstorm to clear public sidewalks and roadways.

On Thursday, Greenburgh Supervisor Paul Feiner said, "Our hard working DPW and parks department crews have been working non stop clearing snow from streets (and) sidewalks."

Feiner said he has received many compliments from grateful residents "who appreciate the work of our highway, sanitation and parks team. I plan to visit the Highway garage and other town facilities to personally thank our employees for their dedication. The amount of snow that had to be cleared was enormous."

Feiner said the town has snow-related problems on East Hartsdale Avenue and planned to keep two crews working on Thursday night to address these conditions.

In a separate but related matter, Feiner has sent out some alerts about the town's "snow angel program. I have received many requests to help senior citizens and disabled residents and so far have been able to find volunteers for almost everyone. We've helped people in wheelchairs, those who have 24/7 health care aides who needed access to the residents home, widows living alone and people who have had other emergency needs."

Feiner said one snow angel helped out after work Wednesday night. "Other snow angels have taken time out of their work schedules to help their neighbors. I am very grateful (and) don't want to impose by constantly calling the same people to help."

Thursday, Feiner said he received two additional calls: an elderly woman in Hartsdale whose husband is critically ill. And the daughter of a woman who lives in a condo in North Elmsford (she lives an hour away from her elderly mom). Her mom needs help removing the snow/ice from a parking lot at her complex.

If you are able to help, email the town supervisor at pfeiner@greenburghny.com
