ARMONK, N.Y.- After decades of pondering over Armonk Square, the North Castle Town Board Wednesday night approved plans to jumpstart the process to build a supermarket in the vacant downtown Armonk area.
The unanimous vote by the board indicated its readiness to end speculation about what would happen to the 3.4-acre site located between Maple Avenue, Bedford Road, and Main Street.
With plans for CVS to move into the location that now houses A&P, much of the Armonk community was up in arms about the possibility of losing a grocery store in the downtown area and many people made their voices heard at Wednesdays board meeting.
Councilman Mike Schiliro, like the rest of the board, was in favorof the project, which will now be reviewed by the North Castle Town Planning Board.
It is an important development and will be a long-term feature of the town, which I am in favor of, Schiliro said.
