According to multiple reports, the 77-year-old Warwick resident was sentenced to serve seven days in jail by a judge in Wawayanda in Orange County following his arrest at a protest.
In 2015, Cromwell was among a group of protesters that were arrested for obstructing traffic at a sit-in at the site of a power plant being built in Wawayanda. He stated at the time that he believed toxins from the plant could cause potential health issues for nearby residents and lower property value in the area.
Cromwell refused to pay a $375 fine that was levied for his actions, leading to the short stint in jail. According to reports, Cromwell was due to surrender at the Orange County Jail on Friday, but an attorney requested a delay from the judge for an appeal. He and two others have until July 14 to start their sentence.
An Orange County resident, Cromwell has more than 175 acting credits to his name, according to IMDB. He played Warden Hal Moores in “The Green Mile,” has won an Emmy and was nominated for an Oscar as “Best Actor In a Supporting Role” after portraying Farmer Arthur H. Hoggett in the movie “Babe.”
