The North Castle Town Board voted at its April 8 meeting to approve the promotions of Edie Martimucci to library director and Megan Dean to assistant library director. The approvals were technically the ratification of promotions made by the library Board of Trustees.

In her remarks at the Town Board's meeting, Martimucci encouraged the public to see changes made to staffing and the library's building and urged people to reach out and give their input.

“I want you to make suggestions,” she said.

Dean was not present for the meeting.

Sean Ryan, the library board's president, touted progress made in increased usage of the library. He said that library attendance for the first quarter was up 17.5-percent increase compared to a year ago. Programming attendance for the quarter rose by 30 percent from the previous year, he added.

Ryan also touted a quarterly rise in circulation, which was a reversal from a declining trend. Additionally, he said that digital circulation, which includes materials such as e-books and music downloads, rose by 55 percent for a year-on-year basis.

“There’s much more to come, in the years to come,” he said.

The board president also envisions a transformation of the library's branch location in North White Plains, which he said Martimucci will be involved in. The library's Armonk location has undergone work in its children's section this year.
