North Castle Police Expect Slow Thanksgiving

NORTH CASTLE, N.Y.- With no parade or other special events scheduled for Thanksgiving in North Castle, the police department expects a slow day.

The department is minimally staffed, meaning only two officers will be on the road, one on the desk and a police supervisor at headquarters on Thanksgiving.

Lieutenant Peter Simonsen projects a higher traffic volume and the possibility of DUI violations, but said there will be no special police efforts to combat them.

"We'd like to monitor the DUI, but we don't have the resources to build up," he said.

On Halloween and New Year's Eve, the department adds staff, "but the demand isn't there for Thanksgiving," Simonsen said.
