Now, the two Armonk friends, are helping emergency responders who helped save their husbands’ lives by presenting them with $36,500 in checks to the North Castle Police Department and the four fire companies that serve the town, said theexaminernews.com.

The money comes from a road race -- Stayin’ Alive 5K Fun Run -- that Berliner and Saltstein established, and have held the past two years, added thenewsexaminer.com.

The two women, both longtime runners, decided to create the event to recognize the town’s police and volunteer firefighters and ambulance corps members for saving their husbands, said thenewsexaminer.com.
