NORTH CASTLE, N.Y. -- Not only is North Castle out big bucks after someone cashed a batch of phony checks, it now has to tangle with its bank over the loss, according to a report by lohud.
Police launched an investigation last December after the town discovered that $11,000 had been siphoned out of its coffers, lohud said.
The town insists that – since the checks lacked the proper authorization – the bank should take full responsibility and not just split the loss with it, the lohud story said.
Wells Fargo, for its part, is arguing that it has offered to fully reimburse the town if it enrolls in its fraud protection services, lohud reported.
