WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- A powerful Nor'easter is making its way north and is set to dump heavy rain and bring strong winds to Westchester County on Thursday.

Rain will be likely before 3 p.m. with up to a half-inch possible. High temperatures will only reach into the low 60s. Chance of rain is 80 percent.  Winds are expected to be between 10 and 16 mph.

"For many people along the coast from Virginia to southern New England, this will essentially be an early season Nor'easter," said Accuweather.com's Joe Sobel.

The threat of rain will linger in the area overnight with a 30 percent chance of precipitation.

The system will move out of the area by Friday paving the way for a sunny weekend with high temperatures in the high 70s to low 80s.
