Lemm was a New York City Police Detective and Air National Guardsmen from West Harrison who was killed by a suicide bomber in Afghanistan last month. He was a 15-year veteran of the NYPD who was on the job during the 9/11 attacks.

In the piece, Lalor said that Lemm's service to both country and community is unique to the generation of responders who worked during and after the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

The name, Lalor said would also pay homage to other heroes who served and sacrificed their lives for the country in the years following 9/11.
