MTA Adds Express Train for Passover, Good Friday

WESTCHESTER, N.Y. – The Metropolitan Transportation Authority is making minor adjustments in service this week for Good Friday and the start of Passover on April 6.

Metro-North Railroad, which expects to have a third fewer riders than normal on Friday, will have an extra “early afternoon super express on the Hudson Line, departing Grand Central Terminal at 3:25 p.m. and stopping only at Beacon, New Hamburg, and Poughkeepsie,” the MTA said in a news release.

The 6:12 p.m. express from New York City that arrives in Poughkeepsie at 7:43 p.m. will not be running.

The MTA also said that in anticipation of an early rush-hour period on Friday, “all temporary roadway closures will be lifted by 1 p.m.”

MTA buses and New York City Transit will be running on their normal weekday hours and routes, but there are slight alterations to certain routes, the MTA said.

“There will be no Limited-Stop bus service in Staten Island on the S81, S84, S86, S90, S91, S92, S94, S96 and S98," the MTA said. "There is no Limited-Stop bus service in Queens on the Q6, Q21, Q25 and Q65.”

The Long Island Railroad will also operate a regular weekday schedule, but will have nine extra eastbound trains from Penn Station between 2:08 p.m. and 3:48 p.m. for riders leaving work early in observance of Passover and Good Friday.

Those nine trains consist of three on the Babylon and Port Jefferson Branches, two on the Port Washington Branch, and one on the Far Rockaway Branch, the MTA said.
