Limo Driver Indicted In Fatal Crash That Injured Westchester Woman

A Long Island limousine driver has been indicted for criminally negligent homicide in a July 2015 crash that injured Scarsdale resident Melissa Angela Crai and killed four of her friends, according to multiple reports.

Three other women were also injured when a pickup truck hit the limo being driven by Carlos Pino in which the women, who were visiting wineries in Suffolk County's North Fork, were passengers.

Pino had been making a U-turn on state Route 48 when the pickup truck driven by Steven Romeo plowed into the limo, killing Brittany Schulman, Lauren Baruch, Stephanie Belli, and Amy Grabino, media reports said.

Schulman and Baruch were from Smithtown; Belli from Kings Point; and Grabino from Commack.

Crai graduated in 2010 from Eastchester High School and had studied speech-language pathology at Lehman College in the Bronx, according to a report by the Daily Voice.

She the seven other women had been celebrating one of their birthdays by touring wineries on Long Island, according to multiple media reports.

Pino, 58, who has pleaded innocent, was also charged Wednesday, March 16, with assault, reckless driving, and other crimes, the nbcnewyork.com story said.

Romeo, who admitted to police that he had had a few beers, was charged with driving while intoxicated, nbcnewyork.com reported.

The three others who survived were: Olga Lipets, of Brooklyn; Joelle Dimonte, of Elwood; and Alicia Arunde, of Setauket, according to media reports.

A traffic light has now been installed at the intersection where the fatal crash occurred, cbslocal.com reported.
