Improvement Projects Under Way At Armonk Library

ARMONK, N.Y. – The North Castle Public Library in Armonk is undergoing a face-lift, and Director Cristina Ansnes said the library hopes to continue adding upgrades to enhance its guests’ experience.

“It’s a long-range plan that will make it much better to deliver our library services,” Ansnes said.

The main circulation area in the upstairs portion of the building is blocked off because of construction, but the wings of the building around the area remain fully functioning. Ansnes said the design of the new circulation area will not only enhance the experience of guests looking to check out materials, but also allow library workers to better communicate with one another and monitor available materials.

The project is being paid for by funds and donations raised by the Friends of the North Castle Public Library. In the future, Ansnes said, the library would like to improve a wing to house reference and nonfiction materials while also acting as a multimedia room. The final project in the plan will be to install an elevator, which the library lacks. Ansnes said the library is looking to raise about $500,000 to fund the projects.

As part of that fundraising effort, the Friends of the North Castle Library will host the 51st annual Armonk Outdoor Art Show on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event will be a major fundraiser for the library.

“It’s our premiere fundraising event of the year,” Ansnes said. The show is held in Armonk Community Park at 205 Business Park Drive.

Ansnes said the construction in the circulation area will be completed by late October or early November and the timeline for further projects will be determined when fundraising is complete.
