ID's Of Woman Killed, Driver Injured In I-84 Crash Released

The identities of the elderly woman killed and the man injured in the fatal accident on I-84 in Fishkill on Saturday have been released.

A preliminary investigation revealed that Mary Haggerty, age 84, of Poughquag and Andre Jenkins, 43, of Mahopac were both traveling westbound, state police said.

Jenkins, who was in the right lane, attempted to exit the interstate at Exit 13 northbound. Haggerty, who was traveling in the left lane, exited her lane for an unknown reason, crossed over all lanes of travel and struck the rear driver's side quarter panel of Jenkin's vehicle, according to police.

Jenkin's vehicle flipped onto its roof and slid down the right shoulder of the roadway while Haggerty's vehicle flipped over the guide rail and traveled approximately 150 yards down an embankment before it came to rest, according to police.

Mobil Life transported Ms. Haggerty to St/ Luke's Hospital in Cornwall where she was pronounced dead upon her arrival.

Jenkins and his 7-year-old son were transported to St. Luke's Hospital by EMstar with non-life threatening injuries.

The crash, on the westbound side occurred near at Exit 13 (Route 9, with delays of as long as two hours being reported back to Exit 16 (Taconic Parkway) during the hours following the accident.

The accident remains under investigation. Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to contact the State Police by calling (845) 677-7300.
