ARMONK, N.Y Retired FDNY Lieutenant of Engine Company 26, Dick Nagle, will perform in the commemorative 9/11 Anne Nelson play, The Guys, Sept 9, 10, and 11 at 8 p.m. in Whippoorwill Hall Theater at the North Castle Public Library.
Nagle, who has loved acting since high school, first appeared in The Guys as FDNY Captain Nick in 2004 at the Herbert Mark Newman Theater in Pleasantville and he has been doing it every year since.
This year, for the first time, Nagles wife Jeanne McCabe will join him on stage and take on the role of Joan, a woman who helps Nick write a large number of eulogies for the firefighters that passed away under his command on 9/11.
I saw this as an opportunity to keep the memory of 9/11 going. Its an opportunity for people to take a little time and reflect on the events of 9/11 and the changes weve all experienced since then, Nagle said. After the fifth anniversary of 9/11 interest in the play waned but for the 10th anniversary theres been this renewed interest.
The play, produced by The Armonk Players, will be free of charge each night and theres no reserved seating.
Im hoping that were going to have full houses on all three nights but well have to wait and see, Nagle said.
Productions of The Guys will be shown in 75 different locations around the country this weekend. The first-ever showing of the play was in December of 2001 off-Broadway in New York City, featuring Bill Murray and Sigourney Weaver.
Nagle has worked in the past with Armonks very own Sam Morel and Donna Garr of The Small Town Theatre Company directing some of their productions such as "Cocktail Hour" and some one-act plays.
