FEMA Disaster Center to Close in White Plains

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency will close the disaster center it opened at the Westchester County Center next week because the demand for assistance has diminished since Tropical Storm Irene.

The center's last day will be Monday. Residents and business owners seeking assistance can go to the center Friday, Saturday and Monday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

County Executive Robert Astorino encouraged those who suffered damage but haven't sought aid to do so.

"We want people to get the help that they may be entitled to," Astorino said in a statement.

As of Thursday, 250 people and organizations have visited the disaster recovery center at the county center and the FEMA mobile center briefly stationed in Mount Kisco. After the disaster center closes, Westchester families, businesses and non-profits can still register for FEMA assistance by calling 1-800-621-3362 or visiting the agency's website
