Ex-Westchester Teacher, Level 3 Sex Offender, Reportedly Fired From Jobs

The former Westchester high school drama teacher who was forced to resign in shame after being charged for sexual offenses involving students in Chappaqua has reportedly been fired from several local jobs amid complaints from parents with children enrolled at the Horace Greeley High School, according to lohud.com.

Former Horace Greeley High School educator Christopher Schraufnagel has been fired from two jobs - including work as a bartender at an Armonk restaurant near the high school he resigned from - which violates conditions of his probation.

In response to locals discovering his new gig, parents complained to local business owners, leading to his ousting from his new position,  the lohud report said.

According to the report , Schraufnagel was recently spotted by Horace Greeley graduates at the recently opened restaurant, which led to further investigation - and ire - from parents.

He allegedly used a fraudulent name in an effort to dupe his now-former employer. As part of the conditions of his probation, Schraufnagel is required to be in rehab while state and federal lawsuits remain pending against him, stating that he used alcohol to assault the students.

Last year, Schraufnagel was assigned a Level 3 s ex offender status, which means he is a “high risk of repeat offense, and a threat to public safety exists.” He currently is residing in a Valhalla homeless shelter.

Schraufnagel served as a drama teacher at Horace Greeley from 2003 until his resignation in 2015. He was accused of having sexual contact with three high school students over a four-year span and several others have come forward since.

Criminal allegations against Schraufnagel include acts of oral sex with a 15-year-old student and unspecified sexual contact and conversations with another. He was also accused of asking a student to kiss a group of classmates for a photo slideshow. Several other students came forward with civil lawsuits after the initial claims against the former educator.

Allegations against Schraufnagel came to light in June 2015 and he resigned the following September. Schraufnagel was levied with criminal sex-abuse charged in October that year.

In a statement last year, Schaufnagel apologized to his victims and the Chappaqua community during an appearance in New Castle Town Court, expressing his “continual” remorse for his victims. In his statement, he said, as an adult, he should have known better than to cross the line with students.
