Defensive Driving Class at North Castle Library

ARMONK, N.Y. – Drivers looking for a reduction of points on their license or a 10 percent savings on insurance can take the defensive driving class at the North Castle Public Library April 14 and 21.

The six-hour class is taught by Melissa Feinberg from Safe Harbor Consulting and Risk Management, an Armonk insurance broker and is sponsored by the New York State Safety Program.

Feinberg said the class utilizes behavior modification to instill safe driving techniques. Class members discuss their experiences among the group.

“We do role modeling and class members act out situations, like DWI,” Feinberg said.

The class also includes movies that show a variety of driving situations, from road rage to DWI and driving in ice, rain and snow.

The New York State Safety program has been approved by the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles for point reduction as well as the Department of Insurance for Insurance Reduction in New York State. Feinberg said four points can be taken off of your record after completion of the course, but only points issued in the past 18 months can be removed, not points added after the course is completed. Drivers with 11 points lose their license, she said.

The insurance discount covers liability, collision and no fault persona injury coverage, Feinberg said.

New York State law limits the class size to 40 and Feinberg said 20 normally take it at the North Castle Library.

“Larger groups are more successful because there’s more conversation going on,” Feinberg said.

The class is held for three hours each day from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Attendance on both days is required. Cost of the course is $49. Contact Feinberg to register for the class at 914-740-1622.
