In the largest mass casualty incident response since Sept. 11, Las Vegas police and the FBI have begun tracking the steps of Stephen Paddock, the shooter responsible for more than 58 deaths and 500 injuries at a Las Vegas concert late Sunday night.

Paddack, who lived in a retirement community outside of Vegas, opened fire from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel, on concertgoers at a country music festival Sunday night.

Paddock's younger brother, Eric Paddock, 55, of Orlando, Fla., told Daily Voice in a story also published in the Las Vegas Review-Journal, that it "felt like an asteroid had fallen on their family."

Eric Paddock also told Daily Voice that there was no indication and "no reason" he could think of that would cause his brother to commit such a horrible crime.

"All we can do is send our condolences to the people who died," he said crying as he spoke.

He said his brother was retired.

"There was no indication that he would do this sort of thing," he said.

When a SWAT unit made entry into the hotel room, a cache of 10 rifles was found in the room in which he had reportedly been staying since Thursday, Sept. 28.

Police say a female companion of Paddock's has been located out of the country and is not believed to be involved in the incident at this time.

Singer Jason Aldean, the country music entertainer of the year, was in the middle of a set when shots rang out at around 1 a.m. Eastern time.

A crowd estimated at more than 22,000 was attending the event.

The death count had initially been reported as 20 before increasing to 50 at a police briefing early Monday morning.
