The historic theater has been operational since the 1930s. As reported earlier, it recently received 501(c) status to operate as a not-for-profit thanks to a grassroots effort of concerned citizens who started an online petition as well as a SaveLarchmontMovies Facebook page.
More than $600,000 has been gathered in pledges to keep the theater from being turned into office space, but according to Ellen Zuckert, who is running the campaign along with Larchmont resident Elizabeth Bradley, much still remains up in the air.
"We are in 'wait and see' mode with our possible investors/partners," said Zuckert.
"There have been a number of offers on this property but understanding the wishes of members of the community who want to retain it as a theatre, we were hoping that they would be successful in raising the funds to acquire it and so we have held off on those offers to date," added Barry Synnott, associate real estate broker with Coldwell Banker Commercial NRT in Dobbs Ferry. "The owners would love to be able to accomplish that if at all possible."
