Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Monday that flags on all government buildings in the state will be flown at half-staff on Tuesday, Aug. 29 to honor Corey George Ingram of Poughkeepsie, who was killed in the collision involving the USS John S. McCain on August 21.

County Executive Marc Molinaro issued a similar directive in Ingram's home county of Dutchess.

The 28-year-old, Information Systems Technician 2nd Class, was one of 10 sailors killed when the warship collided with a 600-foot tanker near Singapore.

The Navy announced on Sunday that Ingram's remains, along with the rest of the missing sailor's bodies, had been recovered from inside the ship.

"The entire New York family grieves for Petty Officer 2nd Class Ingram and the nine other sailors on the USS John S. McCain who lost their lives serving our country," Cuomo said. "These sailors answered the call to serve this nation and defend its values, and we will be forever grateful for their service and their sacrifice."

Molinaro released a statement saying that Ingram was an American hero:  "Corey gave his life for his country, leaving a legacy of bravery, honor, and duty, and we are forever indebted to him and his family for his service and sacrifice," he said.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with his parents, Jacqueline, one of our own Dutchess County employees, and Hubert, as well as his friends, loved ones and all those who serve this nation. In honor of his service and sacrifice, flags on all county offices will be lowered to half-staff.”
