The report is from John Collins of Maser Consulting, which is in Hawthorne. Maser is traffic consultant for Summit/Greenfield, Chappaqua Crossing's owner and developer.
Collins' report, which was published on New Castle's website, includes traffic data from 2008 and 2013. The data, based on findings from multiple sites near Chappaqua Crossing, include projections from an earlier retail proposal version and the latest.
The earlier scenario involved a 60,000-square-foot grocery store while the second involves a 40,000-square-foot store and a health club. Whole Foods has signed a lease to be the grocery store tenant. The traffic projection data show that the impact from the newer retail iteration is less than the previous one.
The proposal involves rezoning the southern portion of the site to allow for the creation of 120,000 square feet of retail space. Public hearings on the rezoning and related legislative items remain opened and will be continued at the New Castle Town Board's meeting on Tuesday, July 22.
Residents who live near Chappaqua Crossing have expressed concern about the proposal and have cited traffic as a reason.
