ARMONK, N.Y. -- Byram Hills alum Irwin Reibeisen and his friend Sam King raised $10,000 for the American Cancer Society of Westchester by participating in the first-ever King-Reibeisen Charity Open tennis event at Byram Hills High School, August 5-7. The two college sophomores had originally only set their goal at $5,000.
Sam and I are definitely strongly considering doing it again next summer, said Reibeisen, a 2009 Byram Hill graduate. It was a lot of work but it was definitely rewarding in the end. Hopefully people see how much fun it was and, for a good cause, maybe they would consider coming out next summer.
The event was sponsored by roughly 30 local businesses and individuals. We couldnt have done this event without them, Reibeisen said. They really helped make this event successful.
But Reibeiesen added that the substantial amount of money raised throughout the weekend was not the only thing that made the event a success.
We set the monetary goal of $5,000 to put ourselves in the right direction but really we achieved so much more than that from this past weekend and this summer, Reibeisen said. Seeing so many familiar faces we havent seen in a while and gathering people together for a common cause was great.
