WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. County Executive Robert Astorino announced Monday that Jay Pisco, an engineer and executive manager, was selected to lead the Westchester Department of Public Works and Transportation.
Pisco, 53, said he looks forward to merging his experience of managing private and public projects as the department's commissioner.
"I'm honored to have the opportunity to serve the people of Westchester," Pisco said in a press release. "County Executive Robert Astorino understands the critical role infrastructure plays in ensuring our economic viability and has been a leader in this area, while keeping costs in line for taxpayers."
Pisco, who has a biomedical engineering degree and a master's in computer science, has served as the president of the board of directors for the New York chapter of the Solid Waste Association of North America.
The former vice president of White Plains-based BSG Engineering, Surveying and Landscape Architecture will earn a salary of $155,245.
Astorino, a Republican, said he was impressed with Pisco's experience.
"Jays deep background managing both the design and construction of projects will be a tremendous asset in evaluating and overseeing the countys infrastructure, especially at a time when the challenges of delivering services and stretching tax dollars are so great, Astorino said in a statement.
John Hsu, current department of public works and transportation commissioner, who announced his retirement plans this summer, said he felt accomplished while concluding his last day in the office Friday.
"It's been a pleasure working with the Astorino administration," Hsu said in a press release. "Im extremely proud of what weve been able to accomplish. Ive greatly enjoyed working so many years with the many people in Westchester County government and I wish them much success.
