Assisted Living Facility Approved for Armonk

ARMONK, N.Y. - The Town Board approved the construction of an assisted living facility at 90 Business Park Drive at its October 26 meeting. The three-story building, proposed by the Engel Burman Group, a Long Island developer, will have 140 units, mostly one bedrooms and studios, that will rent from the low $3,000s to $7,200 a month.“The residents will basically be there all the time,” said Council member Rebecca Kittredge. “They’ll do some shopping in town and have a doctor and dentist on site daily. A lot of things will be done in house. They’ll have a wellness center and physical therapy. We’re talking with one of the physical therapists in town to coordinate the service."“It’s a lovely facility. One of the biggest concerns at the meeting last week was the ambulance. We have a volunteer ambulance and it was explained that most of the time they’ll use a private ambulance to take them to the doctor or hospital," Kittredge said. "They would not use our ambulance unless it was an emergency. Our volunteer fire department oversees the ambulance and we have five elected officials who run the fire department. They’re negotiating with the assisted living facility to make sure coverage is adequate.”Kittredge also said the assisted living facility will provide tax benefits to the town. “The question of taxes came up and the town attorney explained that we don’t know yet how much tax revenue will be gained but it will be considerable since it’s vacant land,” she said. After the Town Board approval, the project moves to the Planning Board for a site plan approval. The Planning Board meets next on Nov. 7, but the issue is not currently on the agenda. Kittredge said the Planning Board will take the issue up this month. Its next meeting is Nov. 21.The state Department of Environmental Conservation must also approve an increase in sewer capacity.
