At a school awards ceremony, Gagliardi received a certificate as well as a check for $1,500 for his volunteer service in the community. Gagliardi will attend Union College in the fall.
He also plays football and lacrosse and joined the firehouse because three other members of his family work at the local fire department, and he saw it as a good way to help his community.
Gagliardi was one of 15 students chosen for this scholarship. A total of 79 students throughout the state applied for this scholarship, which was the highest number ever submitted.
Scholarships are awarded on the basis of an applicant’s volunteer service to his or her community (e.g., community projects, fire department, Scouting, church, school, work with senior citizens, fire prevention projects, 4-H, etc.) and the proof of his or her character through community citizenship and dependability.
