Although power was starting to be restored to some houses, residents who are without it need to remain patient as crews work around the clock, North Castle Town Supervisor Howard Arden said Monday.
"We are coordinating the logistics of this effort to expedite restoration," Arden said in a statement Monday. "We expect to see major improvements today and tomorrow."
Although 2,120 homes in North Castle have had power restored, 54 percent of the town was still without electricity, Arden said. Some workers are working to remove trees and cannot restring electrical wires, he said.
A bit of normalcy was brought to Armonk on Monday as the Byram Hills Central School District reopened for students after being closed all of last week. The storm damage will also not affect Election Day. All polling places will be open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday.
The Hergenhan Recreation Center in Armonk remains open as a shelter for all residents from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Overnight accommodations can be made.
The Gym and Brynwood Country Club in Armonk have opened its doors for all residents to take showers. The gym will be open for residents from 5 to 7 a.m. and from 1 to 10 p.m. on Monday through Thursday; from 5 to 7 a.m. and 1 to 9 p.m. on Friday; from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday; and from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday. Brynwood Country Club will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. throughout the week. Residents must bring their own towels and toiletries.
