The Jones family unveiled a monument dedicated to the coach who was killed in 2012, according to the report. Jones was stabbed to death in New York City on Oct. 7, 2012. He was 25 years old.
"Mike had a huge impact on the people in this town," said Cathryn Kaehr, a member of the group who organized the monument dedication, in the report. "He coached a couple of hundred Armonk kids every weekend, and he touched people from all over the Tri-state area."
Mike's brother Phil Jones, of England, also attended the ceremony, according to the report.
"It's overwhelming, and Mike would have been proud," Phil Jones said in the report. "He will always be a part of Armonk."
Mike Jones played for the New York Red Bulls and a few players "came to the ceremony and took pictures with the kids, signed autographs and kicked around the soccer ball," according to the report.
"We like to think of the whole Red Bulls’ community as a big family," said Red Bulls goalie Ryan Meara, in the report. "When something like this happens, we all try to do the best we can and have events like this to never forget. He was a great guy and it was the least we can do." Kocuke said, “It’s good to come out to be part of this, and have his spirit here for the kids."
