ARMONK, N.Y. -- The roof for a gazebo in Armonk’s Wampus Brook Park collapsed recently, damaging a truck underneath it.

The collapse was announced by North Castle Town Administrator Joan Goldberg at the Town Board’s June 25 meeting when discussion came up about a proposed change order for renovation work on the structure.

The board, according to Goldberg, authorized about $34,000 for work, including replacement of decking and railings, along with electrical work. Deficient structural supports were discovered by a contractor, according to Goldberg.  Steel collars around the gazebo’s concrete columns had eroded, she explained.

A change order, in the amount of  $17,650.39, is being sought by contractor Prime Building Services Inc. Goldberg mentioned that the change order covers replacing the structural supports.

The Town Board did not vote on the change order at the meeting, with Supervisor Michael Schiliro saying it wanted better information first.

It was disclosed that the collapse will impact a July 12 concert, with borrowing a bandstand mentioned as a possible alternative.

The gazebo was built in 1967 and was a project from the Lions Club, according to Ed Woodyard, who was among those at the Town Board meeting. Woodyard wants the gazebo to be restored.

There were no injuries due to the collapse, according to a story from The Examiner.

Video of the Town Board's full discussion about the gazebo is available here.
