The group gathered outside the church with a table full of holiday treats and encouraged parishioners to donate toward finding a cure for the disease, which affects a fellow parishioner, according to the report. The youth group raised $647, some from donors who contributed without a taking home a treat.

The funds will be donated to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, earmarked for research of new biliary cancer therapies, according to the site.

According to New York Presbyterian Hospital, the two primary types of biliary cancer are cancer than develops within the liver and cancer that develops within the liver's biliary ducts (tubes that transport bile).
